Grinding standard Buck 110 to drop point

Results are marginal. Of course it can be done, but the shape of the clip point is just a couple millimeters off in some places to allow it to come out perfect.

As you can see from the front side, the nail nick is way too close to the spine (a factory drop point should have the nick parrallel to the spine, while the clip point has it angles to the clipped portion).

However, due to the clip grind, the spine has to be ground down enough to get rid of the bevel and make a sontinuous curve from spine to tip. In fact, if you can telll from the pictures, the curve is actually just a little too bulged over the nail nice, even if only a tiny bit. So to make it a perfect spine curve it would have to be even closer to the nail nick.

The tip of the resulting blade is exactly in the same spot as it was. I wouldn't want it much lower, and would prefer it to be raised some, which of course isn't an option.

That all said, it's VERY close to being what I would want, so if you also have more than enough 110's, maybe it's worth modifying one.
