Hello all, newer to this and have a somewhat station for grinding in my shop but want something a little more clean As I will be sharing the space with woodworking projects, etc. I don’t have a lot of space so a dedicated room is not feasible. I have a built in station for my chop saw That works great have included a pic. My shop is on the second floor and have concerns about sparks/dust Plus like having the kids up with me from time to time making their own projects. I feel a dedicated station with better dust collection made from sheet steal would contain the majority. Due to welding station/table being down stairs (on concrete) I can’t fit much more down there with out the wife having an opinion:) lol I sure others can relate!. Sorry this is getting long.. any who.

the question(s).. is anyone doing something similar? What are others doing in non dedicated spaces? Any ideas? Grinding station would be adjacent from miter saw.

This is current grinding location below.. I plan to build something in this same location.

Wow that is really tidy. I have a 1400 sq ft barn that is a complete disaster. I'm going to be renovating next year to make a dedicated grinding room, assembly room, wood shop and welding / machine / mechanics shop.

A lot of guys use some metal duct hooked up to a shop vac for sparks. At the very least a bucket full of water.

Nice!!!! My shop is in my basement, but I would eventually like to have a shop separate from the house.

i enclosed my grinder area in a plastic pvc curtain enclosure. keeps the rest of the shop from getting a layer of dust.

Thank you all for the kind word And great advise! Also just realize the “what’s going on in shop” thread.. gonna spend some time running through pics!

Personally, I'd move the grinder to the other side of the bench. Otherwise I'd be bumping into that wall about every 5 seconds, especially when grinding longer pieces. A spark shield behind the grinder wouldn't be a bad idea either. You'll get occasional sparks and debris shooting off the back of the belt.
