Im making my first blade and wanted to know if there is a proccess or order i should follow to grind a tanto. Any tips you guys have would be greatly apreciated. I plan on practicing on scraps first but i dont even know what grit of belts i should use besides increasing grit count as i progress. also when heat tempering do i have to buy tempering oil or can i substitute something like used motor oil.
thanks

I would suggest you search and read a lot of the previous threads on these subjects. Also a couple of good books and videos would be wise.Don't start that tanto until you understand ALL the things involved in its construction and heat treatment.
