Currently I only have a single speed 2x42 grinder. Belt speed is fast, 4400 FPM (per grinder label). I started using A2 and CPM-154, then tried 80CRV2 and now playing a bit with AEB-L. So, my question is: Without such high belt speed, would you still try most of grinding post HT on stock => 1/8"? Obviously my concern is overheating and losing heat treat. I've had pretty good success with CPM-154 and 80CRV2 grinding bevel pre-heat treat to approx. .03". Would you try that with AEB-L? Currently utilizing Paul Bos for heat treatment.
Thanks for any input.

I use mine for AEB-L mostly on 0.06" stock, post heat treat. Use coarse ceramics and trizacts to no finer than 120 grit. It is possible to bring it down below 10 thou on the machine. Dunk in water early and often. I start hand sanding with 120 grit, and it is usually at 0 tbe somewhere in my hand sanding progression.

When i was using my single speed grinder i did most of my grinding after heat treatment.
I find that heat is more of a problem at higher grits, so if you switch to hand sanding at say 120 grit you'll have less problems with heat.
You could also look into a cooling mist system

When I used a 2x42 I did much more of my grinding pre HT. And like someone else said, 120 ceramic then trizacts. Don’t go too high on grits with that speed.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. To date, pre-HT grinding seems to be successful. I'll probably do some comparison blades by sending in a handful ground pre-HT and others not. I found that stopping belt grind with ceramic 180 belts then switching to hand sand has worked rather well.
