I am just messing around with making a knives and I was wondering if any one had any suggestions or recommendations regarding grinding wheels/stones.

I shaped the blade with a 6" stone that I bought at a hardware store however by the time I was done it was a 4" stone. Are there harder stones out there? I know that it would be better to buy a belt sander however I don't have the money right now for that investment. I have a motor and and attachment for a stone and some decent files. Any input will be appreciated.

Stones don't work well for grinding blades, and the dust will kill you.
Some of the knifemakers suppliers sell an expandable sanding drum that should work well. They should not be used above 1750 RPM.

I use a DeWalt $ 1/2 inch angle grinder with a 60 grit flapwheel, it works well and comes out smooth. Less wear and tear. Although, I must admit I am a newbie to Bladesmithing....

Hi Eightman, Welcome to Bladeforums!

You might try posting this question over in the Shop Talk forum where a lot of blademakers, both professional and amatuer, hang out and discuss all kinds of topics related to knifemaking.
