Grinding with multiple grits before and after heat treatment

This is my first attempt to make a knife. I'm using the craftsman 2x42 with a after market ceramic platen. Recently bought several belts from trugrit.com - 100, 240, 320, 400. Its a bushcraft knife measuring about 9" x 1.125", blade length is about half of the total. A2 steel 3/16" thick. I will
be sending it off for heat treatment.

What is recommrecommended as far as which grits to use before and after heat treatment?

Would I use all four of these before heat treating? Or would I use for example 100 and 240 before treatment and then finish up with 320/400 after?

I should have specified this question applies to grinding the bevel and cutting edge. I've already cut and ground the outline and shape of the knife.

There is no ' recommended ' level of finishing before heat treat but i've always finished my blades to at least a 600 grit finish before heat treatment since after heat treating it's a lot harder to remove tool marks in the blade. That way, I can usually remove the few tool marks that are left with coarse rouge on an 8" X 1" buffing wheel. It will help you if you grind each succeeding grit at a different angle from the one that preceeded it. It makes it much easier to see the tool marks that still need to be removed.
