Grip for Reeve One-Piece Knives

What does everyone here use to cover the grip on their Reeve One-Piece knives? I have found that the bare metal grip will tare up your hands with any aggressive cutting or chopping, so I wrapped mine with black sports tape. I also tried wrapping different sized twine/cord around the handle, but it doesn't stay on due to the tapered part of the grip toward the hilt (it slips off of the level part and loses it's tension, ...if you know what I mean). I'm not sure how much I like the tape, so any other suggestions would be great.

This is my wifes Randall Model 18 that I wrapped with green cord. Yeah, the knife is way too big for her, but it made a nice anniversary gift anyway! ;)

BTW, I would like to thank Roadrunner for the Blade Show tickets! It was my first "all knife show," and I managed to pick up a beautiful new small "Classic" Sebenza from the Chis Reeve table.

If you use it bare your hands will toughen up in a short period of time. I just used it barehanded.

I’ve just left mine plain as well. I’ve always figured that any calluses or blisters that would ever to have developed would come along with any bit of 'work' that I would be doing. It would be kinda cool if there was some kind of gripping shrink tubing that could be affixed though. I like your wife’s corded CR, I’m going to stay away from the tape – I don’t want the glue gumming up the handle if I change my mind. Shrink tubing though, the wheels are turning… :)

Up until now I have always used it the way it came (bare metal). However, during the last hiking excursion I did some chopping and it was literally ripping up my hands, ...and it didn't take too long for it to happen either! I was pretty surprised. Some sort of coating would certainly help. Maybe I'll try the bicycle tire/tubing idea. I really don't want to use gloves. Anyone have pics? ...or any other good ideas?

...and do they make shrink tubing that would fit over a Reeve handle??? That would be great.

USe a bike inner tube or my favorite, cinelli bike handlebar tape. Natural cork dyed in very nice colors

My hands toughened up pretty quickly when I started using my first Chris Reeve one piece.

If I need some protection I prefer to wear gloves than wrap the handle.

I have a pretty good calluses from my knives/machetes.You need to take your time. But if that isn't an option you could always try medical tube.It comes in all sorts of thicknesses it's easily replaceable and it won't leave your handle sticky if you take it off.

Yesterday afternoon I bought a thin bicycle inner tube and fit it to the handle of my Ubejane and it works great! I'm quite impressed. The grip and feel are fantastic. It's just what I was looking for. Thanks for all of the input!

Try tennis racket grip tape,

It comes in several colors and is soft, yet tacky. It can be wrapped tight and will also shrink on tighter with a little sweat.
