Benchmade won't send them to you because you have to dissemble the knife to install it. You would have to send it in for warranty repair, and they'll replace it.
Yeah, I know. However, since I need the pin, they'll probably figure out I've already taken it apart. I wouldn't tell them any different. So at that point, the warranty is void and they want $20 to do it.
I don't like their policy, but I understand it and still buy Benchmade stuff.
Truthfully, I'm not sure how people who carry any knife around and use it get by without disassembly for cleaning. I take mine apart all the time. Plenty of times I'm glad I did because I see and treat the beginnings of rust. The pivot collects moisture and it starts there. Plus the liners get plenty gross.
I've never had a problem before, but this time it was full of lake mud and had been wet. It was apart, and, well, I can safely blame the missing pin on the dog. Leave it at that.
I wish Benchmade was like Spyderco with parts, but they aren't and I know that, so no big deal. Next time I break it down, the dog gets crated.
