grip or hk

I think that depends on what kind of knife you want.

H&K AXIS 14715 is more like black class where Griptilian is in Blue class. Significant differences are blade steel and H&K has full liner instead of grivory capsuled liner. H&K has D2 blade where Griptilian can have S30V. (Of cause on Benchmade custom knife site, you can have it with D2)

If you use it regularly and maintain the blade well, then H&K is very good one to have as D2 is resilient and easier to sharpen than S30V. If you like to EDC and cuts acidic fruits, caper games then S30V is better steel. As always, YMMV.

No I thought about the 154cm grip

I think you get more for your money with the HK, but either would make a fine choice.

Hands down the HK for me. Better materials, stronger design and a longer blade which I like.

However, not unlike firearms ergo's can be even more important to the user. Unfortunately unless you can get to handle both you don't know which will feel better in hand for your purposes.

That said I really like the way the 14715 feels in hand but that's just me.

Best of luck on which ever model you choose. Don't see how you can go wrong either way.

All the best!

They are both great designs, but the HK has a full steel frame with G10 over it, instead of hollow plastic handles, and is a much better value.

Just an additional credit to Griptilian, 551-1401 REI edition has S30V blade and G10 handle. IMO, it fit very nicely in one's hand.

I have both and the HK is heavier and the G-10 is very rough so it will shred a pocket or two if not sanded down a bit.
The Griptilian has a more positive grip. Both are great knives IMO. Hard to choose!

The Benchmade HK 14715 with D2 & G-10 gives you perhaps more value (under $100 shipped) than anything else in the Benchmade line.

I've had two 14715s and neither was so course that it damaged pockets. They were nowhere near as rough as my Emerson handles.

Actually, the 14715s were pretty mild out of the box and were never a problem.

For the record, sanding is rarely necessary for handle scales, they can be smoothed very gradually by rubbing them on a piece of carpet or bluejeans. It won't take it down too far, and will definitely de-tooth rough G10. It's very easy to go too far with sandpaper and G10.

Between the two, I would go H&K all the way...that said I'm not a fan of Griptillians. I do enjoy Benchmades, my two favorites of which are the Rift and Contego. I actually thought about buying a Griptillian, but compared it to the Rift and ended up buying the Rift as was much better for my intended uses.

After some use I can say that the Griptilian (I used a Ritter S30V) is a way better slicer/carver (think feather stick) than the HK 14715. Also the black coating seems to create some friction when slicing, shaving wood.
The HK is more a Tactical blade with a thick spine, the Grips are all around utility blades.
The HK 14715 is still a heck of a deal at around $100.
