Grip screw integrity

Hi Spyderco gang, I have a Tenacious (~$35) and I've fallen in love with it. My only qualm is that the grip and pocket clip screws are way too soft and strip out with even my best Torx tools. That's cool with me as I used a rotary tool to make the clip screws flathead compatible. After all, it's an inexpensive knife. I really like it though and it's got me thinking I want to try a higher-end Spyderco like a Para2 or something. My question: is the hardware, such as grip and clip screws, on the higher-end Spyderco's just as prone to stripping out as my inexpensive Tenacious?

I appreciate any and all help.

Take care.

Can't say I've ever stripped a screw on any of my Spyderco's from Japan, Taiwan, or the US. I've never owned one of their Chinese products such as the Tenacious, however.

I have carried the same military for over 8 years... not a hint of anything loosening... (however, I use it for cardboard and zip-ties... not pumas and pine trees)

Never stripped a screw on any Spyderco but, as with most things in life, YMMV. Any screw can be the victim of "operator malfunction". I suspect that a lot of the issues with screws on the models from China is the combined result of their apparent use of whatever fastener is cheapest at the moment, Torx or Allen, and buyer's use of the wrong wrench.

Thanks guys. I think I'll probably pick up a Para2 or something similar and get some quality tools to go along with it. I appreciate your input!

You could replace the clip screws with some decent ones. The clip screws on my Tenacious are M3 x 0.5
