Anyone have any suggestions as far as grip enhancment? I was doing a bit of shadow fighting with my CRKT Companion and as it was kind of cold (FL cold anyway) noticed that the grip was a little on the side of not positive. I've considered grip tape but can't seem find any online resources besides skateboarding sites. Could do ranger bands but don't know how well they'd hold up and again with the grip tape not sure of it's lasting or perhaps permenant effect. Can't wrap the handle because I've got thin fingers and the grip is as wide as can be allowed without feeling chunky. Any help is greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thanks in advance.

grip tape will hurt your hands as well as rip up your clothes... try a bunch of regular rubber bands. They will wear out every few months, but they're cheap and you can get them anywhere.

Try your local Ace Hardware and ask for some 3M Stair tape. Works GREAT!!

You can also try underwrap, the stuff that you wrap your ankles with before taping up. Its not permanent, shouldn't mark anything like hockey or skate tape and its cheap. Might be a little tough on hands, but I've not noticed it.

If you' re fortunate enough to find a hardware store that stocks them by different widths and grades, they will sell them by the foot. If you' re really doing some serious "shadow boxing", then you will quickly find that the tape will eat your flesh up. Some other hardware stores will sell a non permanent rubber dip in a can. You can submerse the length of the handle and let air dry. Another option may be to use adhesive medical cloth tape. This will provide a good grip and won' t make the hands sore. But in very warm weather, the tape may become a bit sticky. I have found the type that is used to wrap table tennis rackets the best. It is an airy mesh that has a very light amount of adhesive.

You might want to try wrapping with thin cord. Most hardware stores have several kinds of mason's cord, and army surplus stores have some thin green dacron cord that I like for wrapping handles. Another approach is to pull the core out of 550 cord and use just the sheath.

Mr. Allen has a good approach. I like to cord wrap handles. I have often used thin braided line that I have rubbed with beeswax like a bowstring. The beeswax is tacky and improves the grip. Using rosen instead of beeswax gives an even better grip, but it can be a little hard on the hands. An old friend of mine liked to increase the weight of knives that he used for throwing. He would wrap his handles with plastic-insulated solid core wire. I think he used around 20 or 22 gauge.

Dunlop use to make grip tape for tennis rackets. I would say to check out your local sporting goods store in the tennis section or even the golfing section. There’s bound to be something to use there.

Apparently I'm in the minority here......what is a "ranger band"??

Thanks for adding a new term to my vocabulary!

I used Plastidip on one of my knives - turned out decent looking and improved the grip noticeably. I taped off what I didn't want dipped. You can dunk it 2 or even 3 times for a thicker coat. Can be removed fairly easily but durable under just your grip.

Sand blasting the scales will also improve the grip considerably and is aesthetically pleasing.

Plastidip...Good idea...I have that on a couple hand-tools and it works very nicely.

Thank you All! Well it seems like grip tape is the best way to go. I just wrapped the handle with some stripped 550 cord and it still feels a bit big but I've just been fooling with it and think I may have it acceptibly wrapped...we'll see how it works out but all suggestions made are great. Thanks a HEAP!!! :D
