Griptilian 154CM vs. S30V

I really like the Griptilian handle and lock, and I don't have a huge preference between the Ritter in S30V and the sheepsfoot in 154CM.

My question is is there enough of a difference in the two blade steels to justify paying the extra for the Ritter (on the assumption that it will be about 30-40 dollars more)?

Thanks,

John

I hope, i remember right, but the blade geometry, cutting ability, was of more importance comparing both, letting the hype - thing aside.

I do like my standard sheepfoot blade very much and it pleases my eye more.

I found S30V was in discussion a bit too often for my taste, in other words, what i read easily compared to what i have seen on my single S30V blade.

Maybe the more mass product 154CM wich was or is used by BM for long, longer than S30V, is the better way.

No after all, i think it is not worth the extra money if it is only the blade steel.

The steel wasn't what I liked about the RitterGrip, rather the higher grind of the blade. I've both the old 440C and the RitterGrip. The steels aren't terribly different in common use tasks, but the geometry of the Ritter is better for my uses.

With the S30V you will have better edgeholding, but, as has been stated, the blade geometry is significantly better. The high grind and thin edge make it a real cutter.

To complicate things further, halfway between the standard grip and the Ritter grip in price is the Cabelas version in D2. My D2 mini-grip holds an edge better than any of my S30V blades.

I prefer the regular 154CM MDP version. I carry one full size or mini nearly every day. I have a ritter girp and don't like it quite as much. I also just got the fixed Griptilian and it's killer!

The price difference is a bit in the steel, but the majority of it comes from the limited production status of the Ritter version.

The Ritter version gives you the S30V, but more importantly it gives you a superior (IMO) blade profile.

Note, too, that you are probably comparing street price, not MSRP. The Ritter can only be aquired from one source, no major competition. The regular Grips are sold for a price below MSRP due to more sellers.
