Griptilian 20cv without G10?

I got this Griptilian today, I thought it was interesting that it has a 20cv blade but the regular nylon handles. The quality and fit and finish is great and the screws look perfect like it hasn't been taken apart. Did they make a model like this or is it a franken grip of some sort? The price was right for 20cv but I'm just wondering what it is.

Based on the box, I'd guess it's a franken-grip. But it could be a custom shop grip. Where did you get it?

I got it from a member here, I think they said they got it from the original owner who said it came from the factory like that. I thought custom shop models had a different model number on the box. Either way it was a good deal for the 20cv blade. Now that its mine its going to get used, I actually like the nylon for and everyday knife.

Ive got two custom orders that i picked up from benchmade, they do have different numbers. The 551-1 should be a 20cv with grey blue g10. I custom ordered s30v with black g10.

Yep, custom shop should have a different model number. The original owner probably did a blade swap. I can't imagine this actually coming from the factory and someone not returning it having paid the full price on a 551-1. Not that the G10 scales are necessarily "better" but most people prefer G10 and there is a substantial price difference in the scales alone IMO.

I know a lot of people prefer the G10 grip, but I actually prefer the plastic grip for use and carry. Unless you were mislead by the seller, you should enjoy the knife. If you like it and end up really wanting a heftier scale, you might really like some of the sand blasted Micarta grips some of the members here make... I do.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I knew that it didn't have the g10 scales when I bought it and the price was right. I like the nylon handles just fine, it's going to be used on the farm so I don't need anything fancy anyway.

Its a franken grip. If it was a custom shop it would be marked that way. Someone likely bought a ritter grip and a -1 and swapped the blade. You likely have a ritter handle with that blade.
