Hi all,

I love the griptillians and I have 3 of them, namely the 551-1302, 550Bk and a mini 556.

Both the 550 and 556 have silky smooth opening/closing action but the 1302 have a gritty feeling when closing the blade. It took me a while to realise that out of the three the 1302 is different whereby the axis lock is black whereas the other two are satin(or bare finish).

I could see on the lock some wear due to the rubbing action with the blade where it mates.

My question is, is this grittyness expected with a coated axis lock?
Do other griptillian owners experience this as well?
Will it eventually be as smooth and silky same as my other two?

Thanks in advance :)

It should smooth out, Ive had axis locks both satin and black gritty at first which are smooth now.

Thanks bro... I think I have to put the 1302 more into the edc rotation.

Take it apart and clean it. It should be smooth as silk if you have
the pivot adjusted properly. Here is an excellent tutorial.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out pronto :)

I've take the blade and the axis barrel out and mirror polished the mating surfaces. Really helps. Gone to 2000 grit paper and finished with polishing compound. As others have said it will smooth out from use; although even polished dirt gets in there and makes it gritty from time to time.

My toxic green and black grip is beyond smooth and has been from the beginning. Black coated axis and everything.
