Many websites selling the Griptilian H2O and many people posting in forums claim the blade steel is the X15 T.N., but I contacted Benchmade by phone today and they said they use the N680 steel for the H2O. I was wondering if when the knife was released they were using the X15 T.N and have changed it for some reason . I find it hard to believe that everyone saying it is the X15 T.N is completely wrong.

The 2010, 2011, 2012 catalogs shows it having the X15 T.N Stainless for model 551H20. The 2013 catalog, the X15 T.N steel was removed from the steel list, and the H20 Grip was changed to N680

yeah what is the difference between the two blade steels?

And is the rest of the metel hardware corrosion resistant like Titanium..or is it just SS steel?

Hmm, that question has been asked before, if I remember correctly the omega springs are still stainless steel... Not sure about the other hardware on the knife. While I'm a Benchmade fan, I think the salt series from Spyderco are actually rust proof having around %0.01 carbon in the "steel" used, steel in quotes because there was some controversy over it being steel or a non steel alloy. In the same thread it was agreed upon the the fully serrated salt knives have better edge retention because the alloy is work hardened through the serration grinding process.

The omega springs, screws, and liners are not corrosion-proof, IIRC. I think I remember reading a thread about this on BM's factory forum a year or so ago and the factory's answer was that the metal parts of the knife other than the blade were standard Grip & mini-Grip materials. I may be remembering incorrectly and I'm happy to have someone more "in-the-know" correct me or confirm this, but that's what I seem to remember.

The screws and clip are all polished stainless steel. The omega springs are the same, as on every other Benchmade. The only thing truly "H2O" about it, is the blade. That being said, ive used mine (X15TN) as my saltwater fishing knife and not a speck of rust so far.
