Hey guys I'm trying to decide on a griptilian. I'm leaning towards the Doug Ritter. There is a discrepancy with the weights from what I can see. I've handled a regular drop point before and like the weight of it. Knifeworks has it listed at 3.25 and the ritter at 3.82. Benchmade list the drop point at 3.88. Knifecenter also has the drop point at 3.25. I was hoping someone on here had one or both and could maybe drop them on the scale and we could see what the actual weight was and if the two are virtually the same weight or not. I may not get the ritter if it a half ounce heavier. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Buy which ever you like. Having owned them all, you will not be able to notice a practical difference.

I have the 550 and 551 both are nice. A Ritter is on its way. My 551 (drop point) is for sale.

I've had both at the same time and there is no telling a difference when they are in the hand. They both felt exactly the same to me.

I just recently picked up a Ritter mini. I prefer the Ritter blades over the standard drop point

Thanks guys. Does anybody happen to have a scale to check the actual weight though so I can get an idea of how much it weighs compared to my pm2?

If I think about it I will weigh both tomorrow, but all of the Mini Grips are very light.
Whatever difference there is, is not worth worrying about it. If the small difference in weight is a big issue for you, perhaps it is time to re-evaluate the hobby :D

Thanks that would be great if you could give me an actual weight. I'm actually looking at the full size griptilian. If I was getting the mini weight wouldn't matter. I like to keep my knives around 4oz or lighter. I'm going to add some custom scales which will add a small amount of weight so I didn't want to end up with a knife that was too heavy for me to carry comfortably. I live in South Carolina so the majority of the year I'm in shorts and quite often its gym shorts. Once knives start getting over 4oz they become pretty heavy to me in gym shorts. So that's why the weight is more of a concern.

Even with the large. I also owned a full size Ritter and a standard grip at the same time, and they weighed the same. These knives are so light, especially with the stock scales.

Where you will get weight is with adding aftermarket scales. Depending on what material you choose, the weight will vary.

But I can assure you that there is no way to see a notable difference between the two in stock form.

The full size grip is so light, you could clip it to your shorts and go for a run and never know it was there. That's with either of those.

Thank a lot! I think I'm gonna go with carbon fiber so that should add very minimal weight. I have a pm2 and that's about the top weight I would want the knife to be if I could help it. Do you know if there lighter than a pm2?

Well. I'm trying to rack my brain here , its been awhile since I've owned all three at the same time.

I would say that they weight the same. The grip might be slightly lighter due to the non G-10 scales.

But I can assure you that the grip is so light it's crazy. I think you need to just pick whatever blade you like the most and not worry about the weight. Trust me
