I currently own a Benchmade Griptilian (553Sbk) the blade is dull and I am regretting not buying a plain edge Drop point blade. So, I am wondering... does benchmade sell just replacement blades? How would I acquire one of these?

Gideons, yes, Benchmade sells replacement blades. Give them a telephone call and the process will be underway. I think it is about $30.

They offer free sharpening and servicing of your existing knife as well but do not sharpen serrated edges. Best of luck.

Thank you lads, as a younger person never really shipped things haha. I hope shipping from Canada won't be too much of an issue.

How can I make a benchmade account, if the form only accept the United States as a country.

Hey Gideons,

I've just been through this whole process from Canada a few months again. I had a 556 with a black serrated blade. I sent it in with the form and my CC info and they replaced my blade with a plain edge satin blade (what I asked for) and sent it back to me. The whole process took about a month or maybe a little more. You don't need a Benchmade account. I left that portion blank. You can call to make 100% sure.

The sad thing is that BM will not replace a regular blade with a Ritter pattern blade. Apparently there are some differences in the knives.

The Ritter pattern is sold exclusively through a certain retailer.

Yes, KW. But, I was talking to BM about this and they told me they cannot do a blade swap from the regular MG or Grip to incorporate a Ritter blade as they are not set up to do that kind of custom work. They still do blade swaps on knives of like style.

The Ritter Grips are +$30 over the standard Grip. One could theoretically send in standard Grip after standard Grip and pay only the standard blade change fee which would be a constant -$30 each knife balance relative to somebody who properly purchased a Ritter and sent it in for a blade replacement. An entire system of tracking who has what or charging a different blade fee based on circumstance sounds very cumbersome and unlikely.

If somebody wants a Ritter, purchasing one through standard channels seems the most convenient method for all parties, no?

I do not know. I called BM about it and the woman who answered the phone went into a long dissertation about why they could not do a blade swap and the fact that it would be a "one off custom" which they are not set up to do. Perhaps she did not know?

It would be interesting to call and ask if you could get a replacement Ritter blade for a Ritter knife. The scales are the same.

Maybe they don't want everyone turning their regular Grips into Ritters for $40? Who knows.

Mine is tanto point too,and I had to regrind it,the tip is spanto now,and grind is almost zero with slight invisible secondary 40 degree edge.It performs well, and I like that knife, but normal drop point would be much more useful.ps.Its easy to regrind it if you have small belt sander.Wait a sec, how can I get regular blade and replace the tanto, can I get the s30v blade?

I would just call them but - chances are you'll just be able to get the standard 154CM regular blade. But again. I'd ask. Calling usually works best.

Benchmade is really good about blade swaps. You can't expect them to swap a mass produced 551/550 blade for a low volume production KW exclusive with premium steel. :-)
