Griptilian Really Stiff

Hey guys, I just picked up a griptilian from a friend today. He said he only ever used it to open a couple of boxes, and I definitely believe him. It is immaculate. The thing is, it is very stiff, and hard to "flip" out using the thumb stud. However, when I pull the axis lock back and swing the blade out, it is buttery smooth, leading me to believe the resistance is coming from where the axis lock contacts the tang, I believe it is called.
My question is, is this normal? Is there anything I can do to "fix" this? Should I send it to BM for a tune up or something? Thanks for the help.

Mine came smooth but has gotten noticeably smoother. I'm sure yours will break in with a bit of time!

Thanks guys, will do!
Edit: I put a dab of silicon grease on the tang (am I using that correctly?) and worked the grease around a bit. No more resistance where the tang contacts the axis, and it's now buttery smooth!
