I just recently bought a benchmade mini grip and so far I love this knife! but one thing i realy miss is the fact that its not a flow through design and it holds lots of gunk and stuff that annoys the crap out of me. So i was thinking if it was possible to make it a flow through design or if someone already has the parts to make it one? I have never made any modifications on my knives before and this seems like quite a task. Is it even possible in the first place?

It is possible but not easy you'd have to cut out the molded backspacer and put standoffs in its place. There are many makers on here that would make a whole new handle design for you or you could check out the Wilkins and Cuscadia grips.

I made my own grips once but it was a lot of work and I ended up not using them anymore. The metal liners are not very wide so they dont provide good strength for handle slabs that are open on the top. I tried then ended up making a spacer myself.

If you made your own simple handle slabs you would need to find a perfect width pre made spacer. I found that it had to go around a bit, to where the tip is when closed. If not then the knife seemed to flex a bit.

Here is a link.

I've carried my mini-grip a fair amount and haven't had problems. Are you sure this is an actual issue?

Maybe not so much an issue, but a matter of preference. The lack of flow through construction is probably my only complaint with my full size Grip. It's not *really* a problem but it is harder to keep clean. Like I said, it's more a preference than anything else for me.

Yes, it is possible.
Here's a few pic's of some ReGrip's with standoffs/spacers that I have done. I have not done this commercially for anyone, just a hobby I do for myself. The standoffs and Micarta were stuff that I bought from Knifekits. I modeled these after BM's original handle design. I put these standoffs in the three places where the original screws were and I have no flex what so ever. These are matching #87 Ritter M4 Grips. The third knife is a Presidio that I cut in half to make my Axis Mouse; which is also of the opened back design with standoffs.

Yea for me its just more of a preference to and im used to being able to blow some air through my knife and clean it out which is nice but i love my mini grip and would like a flow through construction on it. Thanks for showing me its posible but it seems like alot of work and money. I think i need to just adapt and get used to it.

You can still blow them out easily and get rid of most of the dirt and lint. If that doesn't work good enough for you a couple seconds under some hot water will clean it even better. Then blow it out to get rid of most of the moisture and let it dry out for a couple hours. If you want to add a drop of lube to the pivot once dry you can though many times it doesn't need it. Many people use the Grips and don't have a problem.

Thanks for the tip! and yea i allways keep my knife nice and lubed but my knives always get muddy and dirty and it never gets realy clean unless i take it appart fully but with a flow through knife i can keep it cleaner for longer untill i can take it appart.

I drilled a few holes in the back of my full size griptillian, since I use it for hunting and fishing and need to wash out "gunk". It's worked so far.

Those look fantastic! I'm trying to do something similar for one of my Grips but I've managed to destroy a nice piece of black and green micarta. Do you have any pictures of the insides of your scales?
