I haven`t bought a knife since 2000,,my Leopard Cub.. I kinda like the Griptilian,in Yellow actually..are these well made? popular? I would be using it for gutting game,,deer, turkey etc..

Griptillians are probably the best entry level Benchmade knife. Great ergos, good choice of blade steel, and solid lockup. The handle scales seem to turn some people off, though.

I only own the Mini Grip, but I can tell you my experience with the 555 has been excellent. The handle on the Griptillian really needs to be felt in person though; I personally can't stand the feel of the full-sized Griptillian, whereas my buddy loves it. To each their own. Construction is very well done in my opinion, though.

I see that some have a hole in the blade and some don`t..why is this?

My 555 has a hole... it's just part of the design. If you go to Benchmade's website, you can find all the models, and you can see the differences in blade geometry.

They list the Grip as having a "Valox" handle,,is that just a fancy way of saying plastic?

Yes. It's strong and fairly impact resistant, but a little chintzy feeling. It didn't bug me a whole lot, but some people get immediately turned off. There are aftermarket G10 scales, but they are pricy.

The Griptilian is almost reaching classic status. I have a 550HG and like it a lot.

Numerous variations in components and/or colors.
The Doug Ritter variations are definitely worth a look too.

Yes, yellow is one of the colors.

Benchmade even has a link on their site so you can customize almost every aspect of your own personal Griptilian:

I had one a few years ago and wish a didn't sell it. Was a really smooth operating knife and was very comfortable to hold. Pretty lightweight too.

A yellow handled 550 (full size sheepsfoot) would be cool, though the full size 550 in anything other than black is hard to come by). They do have the 555, the mini griptilian in yellow.

Personal preference on the hole, though I am partial to the sheepsfoot blade. Actually, nevermind, really is aesthetics. Worse case it winds up on the exchange and you lose a few bucks.
