Just a general question.

Which would you recommend for EDC and why? (The why? Always makes it more interesting!)

Also any thoughts on blade shape, tanto etc?

Why again just for interests sake?

You have considerable price jumps! I am waiting to receive my Mini-Grip in the mail. The more expensive knives are going to have better materials, closer tolerences, and better QC. I don't think you can go wrong with any BM knife. It is all up to which knives you like the look of better, what materials you would rather have, how much you are willing to spend, ect. I would probably choose the 710, because it is supposed to be a very tough knife and it has had very good reviews here on BF, it is also cheap enough that if it gets lost, stolen, or broken it isn't a weeks pay, I also like the way it looks. The Rukus is HUGE, you might want to see one in person or get the new Mini-Rukus. As for blade shapes, I find the tantos to be my least favorite edc shape, it is just impractical for the things I use a knife for, it is very good for self defence and if you need a very strong tip, you may also like the look of a tanto, but I don't. Recuved blades are very good if you have the proper sharpening inplement (e.g. Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker), they are almost impossible to sharpen on a flat bench stone or on a kit such as a Lansky or DMT, the 710 has a slight recurve. I like the modified sheepsfoot of a Benchmade 555 the best, but that is my preference. Try different blade shapes (you will probably own one or more of each kind), go for the one you like the looks of, or you won't be happy with the knife no matter how well it cuts (unless it is strictly a work knife), if you don't like it, you could always give it to me. Keep us (BF) posted on which you choose.

If price is taken out, and you're just into big knives, the Rukus is pretty amazing. It's very custom esque, and even more so with the replaceable scales. It really depends on the use though...I'll bet the recurve on 710 would roxx0r on slicing, but you might want the substantial finger guard on the rukus in SD.

The Rukus is just too darn big for my taste.

And the Griptilian, as nice as it is, just comes across as cheap feeling and cheap sounding and cheap looking.

But the 710 is excellent in every respect.
It's quite possibly the best production folder available today IMHO.
It is not too big and not too heavy.
It has excellent materials and craftsmanship.
It is comfortable to carry and use.
The Axis-lock is totally reliable and secure.
It it not priced too high for the average working Joe.
The blade-design is one of the best I have ever used.
A true modern classic.

Cheers,
Allen.

I've carried a BM 710 with an ats-34 blade for a few years and it is a solid high quality piece. I liked it so much I bought my Marine son-in-law one with a D2 blade and he loves it. The axis lock and g-10 scales make for a very quick opening and secure gripping knife. It carries very well in the front pocket of my jeans or in my dress pants alongside my wallet in my back pocket. You won't regret getting the BM710 in d2 or ats-34. I'd get the d2, a great steel.

The 710 is my all around standby knife. Pretty good for about any situation.

The RUKUS is a bit big for EDC for me. Like it, though.

The fullsize Griptillian just doesn't do it for me. The full size feels "off" in my hand. The mini Grip makes a nice office knife, though (feels better in my hand). In the Grip line, I prefer the Ritter versions due to the superior blade (IMO).

Of these three, give the 710 a try.

I have both the 710 and the rukus. i didn't realize how big the rukus really was until I took it out of the box, so you may want to check one out before you buy it. However, I love big knives and the Rukus is currently my favorite folder that I own. It's perfectly balanced and the ergos are amazing.

These are my personal preferences for this recommendation. As for the Griptilian, I'll be comparing the RSK version as it's the most similar to the other knives.

710, good handle, great lines, nice high flat grind. For me, I don't like D2 nor recurves, but it's a good knife. You can get other blade steels in the used market, but new, I think the steel and recurve is deal breaker.

Rukus. like the blade design, but it's THICK. Too thick I think with a handle too large for the blade. Too much guard too.

RSK. High grind, thin blade, good lines great handle, tacky handle material, but tough. Good gaurd without being intrusive.

RSK Griptilian would be my pick. And it was. I've considered the other knives and for me, the RSK is superior.
