Greetings all,
So I find myself having to go out of town to a non-auto friendly state and I don't want to go knifeless. I also don't want to take the chance of losing my beloved Microtech L-UDT in a baggage search.
I leave in a few days so didn't have time to search out a black bladed non-serrated Griptillian and get it shipped here before I leave. I wanted a black blade because I do, on a fairly frequent basis have use of a knife when it's dark and a bright blade might not be the best thing to have. Normally I have my blacked out L-UDT but I wanted the Benchmade to be black also, just in case it ended up being on hand during one of these times.
So..... I picked up the knife you see here at a local retailer. I had on hand a Caswell Plating Stainless Steel blackening kit reserved for another project so I figured, "What the heck..." Why don't I give it a try.
The proof is in the pictures. I blackened the blade, liners and the axis bolt. Just like what car painters and metal finishers will tell you, the surface you start with is the surface you will have and as the blade was semi polished it still reflects light but at least it's not as bright as it was.
I think I may try doing it again but run the blade through my friends bead blast cabinet before the treatment to see about reducing the sheen a little.
