So benchmade has introduced a griptillian trainer (on 1sks whats new page).

I dont usualy Question companies policies since there is often a method to their madness, but this i just dont understand. I thought people bought trainers so they could practice with a knife that was almost exactly the same as what they would use in real life, i understand benchmades introduction of the AFCK, 710, Styker, and Bali trainers, but the griptilian has never struck me as a very tactical knife, i think that anyone serious enough to get a trainer would (A) Have a more tactical knife than the grptiallian, and (B) want the trainer of the knife they plan to use.

So i ask why?

I like the idea, but I have a Griptilian and until I got my Emerson Mini Commander a few days ago, it was my EDC. Actually, it has still been with me in my lower right cargo pocket...

The Griptilian is very smooth and quick into action. The grip is great. Everything seems secure. It is the cheapest Axis lock version. The clip is ambidextrous. A "mini" version has come out (no, I haven't tried one yet, but I want to). I love the hole, oblong as it is...:)

Perfectly "tactical," IMO, and a great utility to boot. I'm checking the trainer out, and maybe will buy one...after I absorb this Emerson cost!

Wow, I was just thinking that I wished that they made one of those, and here it is! Cool!

Gotta get one of them. I love my Griptillians!

I've pretty much decided that the full-size Griptilian drop-point is going to be my main defensive blade, edging out my Benchmade TSEK. Why? The Griptilian is the most user-friendly knife I've ever handled. The opening action is almost unbelievably smooth considering the relatively low price for this knife, and the knife feels perfectly (I mean perfectly) secure in my two main grips: saber/hammer grip and false grip (hammer with the edge facing in towards my body). Not only are the grips secure, but the knife manipulates very smoothly between grips.

Sure, I'd prefer that the blade was longer, and I would prefer that it had full steel liners so that it would be heavier and thus more effective as a striking weapon. But in a high stress situation, the best knife is one that you can open quickly and easily, manipulate smoothly, and not lose from your grip. I will reluctantly give up the TSEK's longer reach and greater weight, for the Griptilian's ease of use.

Would I buy a Griptilian trainer? Probably, since I already have an Edges2 Kasper trainer that I use regularly. Trainers are a great way to get quality practice without risking the humiliation of a self-inflicted cut.
