Grit Blasted vs. Tumbled Ti: Which Finish Is Better For EDC

I have a choice of two different finishes for both the scale and blade of a knife I may purchase. I plan to use it for EDC, so it is going to be exposed to light scratches etc. I want a finish that is tough, and can stand up to light scratches and/or hide them.

My available choices are grot blasted and tumbled. On my Hinderer XM-18s the tumbled finish seems bulletproof. I got an anodized one and it literally get scratched by the fabric in my blue jeans.

So any input in grit blasted vs. tumbled?

From my understanding an anodized TI finish just effects the top layer of the TI, that is why it can be easily scratched.

A grit blasted TI also shows the scratches (check out photos of Sebenzas). Put the knife in your pocket a few times and you will have snail trails. With that said, after some time your blasted TI will take on a character and look great.

If your looking for something with a finish that will hold up (and look new) go with a tumbled TI (natural - not anodized) finish.

How about Carbon Fiber. As in thick Direware version? Does anyone have experience with that as EDC? Does it get scratched up/dinged easily?

Here's what Direware

"The expected benefit of a tumbled finish is that any new scratches will blend into the ones that are already there. Grit Blasted is not very durable, scratches will show up very easily. The ceramic finishes that we are now offering offer the most durability."
