Does anyone know the grit numbers for the Spyderco Sharpmaker's fine and medium sticks? I want to know if I'm going to need another stone to really set up my edge.

I asked this question a few months ago in the Spyderco forum. I was told by Michelle, I think, that she thought that the grits were 600 and 1200. You can do a search in that forum.

If by set up your edge you mean rebevel the edges I would say yes though you could do it with the medium stone but it would be very, very slow. A coarse diamond or even extra coarse diamond is very fast.

What I actually meant was do I need a Higher grit stone to get the polished edge, but 1200 is high enough for me I think. I probably am going to need a diamond stone for the rebeveling though. Too much money...

A cheaper way to rebevel a blade than using a diamond hone is to get a coarse 8" aluminum oxide or even silicon carbide bench stone. Instead of using the wide "top" surface of the stone use the narrow (.5" to 1.0") side of the stone for honing. I use back-and-forth strokes when roughing down a profile rather than the edge-first stroke I use for final honing. I hold the hone in my left hand while honing. The back-and-forth strokes load up the hone extra fast. To prevent loading and speed honing I do my work under a running kitchen water faucet. This kind of work tends to strip diamonds from a diamond plate.

Silicon carbide is supposed to cut faster than aluminum oxide, but I find it hard to get through the sort of glazed surface on a new silicon carbide hone. I think I've seen Norton brand stones in the tool section of Home Depot for well under $10.00.

Hi!
According to the instructions sheet that I got with white Profile:
The white stone is approximately 1,200 grit, and the grey stone is approximately 600 grit.
