Does anyone know what the grit is on each side of this 6 dollar stone from norton economy series carried by Home Depot?

Also one other question pls, when I read that the norton professional 3 stone im313 has grits from 100 ish to 320 ish, I was surprised as that combo seems extremely course even the fine stone if the grit is really 320. Is grit measurement standard, in other words if I'm looking at dmt duo sharp with 320 course and 600 fine does the 320 dmt equal the 320 stone from norton ?

Grit values across different abrasives and bonds/binders will not yield the same finish. The econo stone (Note they are made in Brazil and Mexico with differing appearance but both act like a silicone carbide stone and sales reps are pretty sure they are silicon carbide) is going to be about 120 on the coarse side and about 220 or so on the fine. In my experience, the fine side will produce a finish that might approximate a 400 grit DMT, maybe a touch finer. When working with vitreous stones like the econo stone or an india stone etc, a lot will come down to how you use it in terms or pressure and lubricant. The India stone is rated at about 300 grit on the fine side but will perform much closer to a 600 with practice and after the stone is broken in a bit. Likewise the Crystalon silicon carbide stone from Norton will yield a finer finish than the econo stone, noticeable but not by a huge margin.

The Economy stone's finish and subsequent performance will also be affected or changed somewhat, if the stone is lapped or flattened on or with another stone. The tendency seems to be towards finer, when it changes.

I agree, the 'Fine' side of the Economy stone is likely comparable to something in between the DMT Coarse (325 Mesh/45 micron) and the DMT Fine (600 mesh/25 micron), when new anyway. I've yet to use the Coarse side of mine on a blade, as the 'Fine' side both works fast and leaves a nice utility edge on most common steels I've tried on it.
