What grit size should I go to before bead blasting? I have hand sanded a AISI-425 SS blade to 2000 grit, dry. If I have to go finer, I do have some micro-abrasive sheets from Lee Valley Tools in 15, 5 and 0.5 microns (equivalent to 1000, 2500 and 9000 grit). Thanks in advance.

I hate to tell you you have gone too far, but i never go over 400 grit before bead blasting, the blasted finish will cover 220 sometimes but i take the step to 400 just to make sure...

You should be just fine now..

 One of the reasons I beadblast in the first place is so I don't have to go past 400:footinmou

Thanks for the info. It did seem that I had gone far enough for bead blasting. I will probably still spend a couple more lunchhours and go all the way to the 0.5 micron/9000 grit abrasive since parts of the blade will be mirror polished. Thanks again.
