I thought this might be of interest since questions about grit size often appear in the various postings.

Interesting comparison, some of the grits seem off though, the diamond vs sharpmaker for example.

Neat table but the Edge Pro web site shows tapes of 1000 and 3000 grit - for both models. The web site also mentions 1200 grit ceramic stones. Perhaps the table is out of date?

It looks like sandpaper might be the best buy, .49-.69 a sheet for a dozen or so successive grits and at 1500 the edge is polished to where you can read the grade of the grit in the reflection.

Sandpaper is really nice price wise for someone who doesn't do a lot of sharpening, but long term, the amount of grit in a solid block is way more than what is on the same price of sandpaper. One way to start is just buy a bunch of sandpaper which will tell you which stone grits you need.

Since I don't have a lot of fancy knives where you have to be real careful about changing the angle and ruining the knifes value, I tend to just sharpen the whole blade. Particularly where the edge is concave or convex I like having to run through a dozen or so grits so I can keep the curve smooth rather than have a roll of flats. I can roll a piece of sandpaper around a flexible cylinder like a plastic prescription bottle with the ends cut off and get a nice eliptical curve.
