Well tommorrow is my bday, and I'm getting a belt grinder. Before I start making anything, I need to sharpen, and put a few bevels on some swords, a few knives, ect. I understand to be careful not to over-heat the blades. I'm wondering what are the basic grits that would be like a course stone, a fine stone, ect?

Happy bday & welcome,,
U need some 40 - 80 - 220 - 400 grit belts. 40 and 80's are used mostly to shape and consumed plenty , u'll use 220 and 400 to sharpen. But u may search this forum and find very useful info about these basics.

Best wishes
