Griv-Ex durability?

I'm looking at a Voyager XL and was curious about the durability of Cold Steel's Griv-Ex? I have a Recon 1 and a Broken Skull with G10, which is tough as a tank. However, I don't have any knives that use Griv-Ex. I'd be curious if anyone has ever dropped a Cold Steel that uses it and had any chips or cracks as a result...

I dropped my Rajah 3 on cement. It resulted in a very slight-blemish. Almost indistinguishable, near the back, by the lock-push. 'Griv-Ex' is basically, a very-dense fiberglass polymer. Also, UV and heat-stablized according to current reference material. Should be, almost indestructible under normal usage. Currently, I have six-knives, all Cold Steel; in the stable with Griv-Ex scales. Very tough, and ergonomic choice for knife scales. You shouldn't have any issues, or fears buying a blade encased in Griv-Ex.

Thank you - that's what I figured, but it's good to hear from someone with experience.

I bought (another) xl voyager used about 2 months ago. It came with a significant crack in the very end of the handle, resulting is a loose piece of griv-ex that was hanging on by hope.

I don’t know how it happened, and the seller was a stickler for “see pictures” even though there wasn’t a good pic of that big crack.

Anyway, they apparently can crack. I’ve never broken one myself, but maybe if you throw them it could happen. Cold Steel said to send it in so they could fix it. I just used the appropriate super glue and it is fixed now.

its annoying when that happens on ebay! if you super glue it will never be as strong and could come apart again when you dont want it to. send it back to CS if the offer is there then you dont have to worry about it again....
