I'd really like to be able to slow down the belt speed on my Grizz. There have been threads about changing to smaller wheels, but that would mean changing everytime to go from blade to handle etc. How about putting something in the wire to vary the amount of juice to the motor? (I know what the name is, but can't spell it). O.K., after you guys that know electric stuff and motors quit laughing, what can I do? I tried Grizzley Industrial's tech line and got no response, so here I am with a dumb question.

Rick,

I don't think there is any practical means to electrically slow the Grizzly motor down.

There are several mechanical measures that will work. The smaller drive wheel you know about, so some other options would be:

1. put a pulley (or sheath) on the buffer side shaft of the motor and drive the grinder with another motor (either variable speed or using pulley ratios).

2. remove the motor and mod the grinder to accept a sheath or pulley.

I went the second way with mine. The Grizz motor can be used to drive it, but I used another motor and the Grizz motor does buffer duty.

Check out http://groups.msn.com/GrizzlyG1015 for some more info on the Grizzly.

Regards,
Greg
