Grizzley sales a contact wheel on their site for something like 70 bucks, was just wondering if anyone has used this one and if it is recommended that i buy it for a home built sander project??
I run one of their 10" wheels that I machined to accept bearings and it works fine. Others have mounted them on a shaft with 2 pillow block bearings and run them that way with good results
+1 on the above. Lots of guys use this wheel. I'll probably pick one up myself when I get the chance. I think ib2v4u's way of mounting the wheel is more elegant, not that it matters.
When I had my Grizz, I bought the 10" wheel. Worked pretty good, however, remember that because it is a direct drive, increasing the wheel size also increases the speed of the belt.
It goes from "The-Speed-Of-Light" to "Oops-that's-faster-than-I thought". It helps to get the belt away from the motor/shaft, and also helps with "hollow-ground" blades, but you have to know your grinder and hope that a gnat doesn't get in your eye when you are grinding.
hey thanks guys, i think i am going to pick one of these up. with a little math i can figure out the correct pulleys to keep the speed down. and i always wear (eye) protection!!!
