Anyone ever use this? Any thoughts? Sells for about $400. without shipping. Thinking it would be fine as long as your not making knives full time.

Whenever belt grinders come up in what used to be the Toolshed, I suggest asking around in the Knifemakers' Forum. They have so much experience with grinders, everything from 1x30" Harbor Freight cheapies up to custom-built and -tuned 2x72" masterpieces.

Plenty of makers use a Grizzly grinder to make knives at least part-time! :p

Yup:thumbup: It will sure do the job at the right price. It is not a KMG, BADOR, Burr King, etc....but then again...it isn't priced like one either. I am more than happy with mine for what it is.

My Grizzly is one of the most used tools in my shop. They are still the best value on a 2 X 72. And they will hold up to full-time knifemaking.

Great piece of equipment! As mentioned above it may not be as good as some of the higher priced grinders, but it definitely is a good starting point. I will add that if you plan on hollow grinding on it though you will need to upgrade to a 10" wheel; the 8" doesn't leave you enough room to hollowgrind longer blades. I would also add a ceramic platen instead of the one that grizzly includes. Even once I upgrade I will keep my grizzly because it's great for a lot of other uses as well.

There are many past threads discussing this grinder as well!

Thanks for the info. I have used a Burr King w/ vari-speed at work to make some knives in the past, but since I have retired I don't have use of this machine any more. This would be for my home workshop.

Well the Burr King is definitely a lot better than the Grizzly, but I think the Grizzly is definitely a good machine for the price!
