Well, it's been a while since I've read/submitted to the forum. Been quite busy with family and work stuff. Oh, and been busy building that shop of mine. Got it nearly fully insulated two days ago. I hope to submit some pics real soon showing it off (if I may be so indulgent). Lookin' forward to gettin' back online.

Just wondering if any of you folks noticed the 10" aluminum/rubber face wheel offered for the Grizzly 2"X72" grinder. I assume that this is a drive wheel that could serve as a contact wheel for hollow grinding. True?

Taz, you get the "bugs"worked out of your Griz?

Yep, the 10" just goes in place of the 8" as a contact/drive wheel. I haven't slapped it on yet but it seems to be the same type of contruction as the 8". I'm thinking it will be nice to clear the motor when grinding some larger knives, although I haven't had a problem with the smaller wheel.

You'd better check to see if they have them in stock, because it took me 8 months to get mine. As you probably heard Grizzly is not too keen on customer service and this was no exception with trying to get this part and don't get me started on the grinder itself. It works fine now with some tweaking (as Taz would argee to I'm sure). [rant off]

Take care and have a good New Year,
Tom

Finally got the grizz tweaked...now it purrs like, well, like a grizz! It grinds pretty well. I am not hollow grinding, and use the contact wheel for the lead in bevels and hogging, so it is fine for that. Platen was radiused and fixed and I actually got real plunge cuts today when i was grinding 2 neck knives!!

Wouldn't a 10" drive wheel run up the SFM speed of the belt?

And Taz what do you mean by the "platen was 'fixed"?
I probably need to radius my Grizz platen a bit more and that might help to keep the belt running straight over it a bit.

I have only used my Grizz for some sharpening and straightening out some grinds and done very carefully it's okay, but I know it can be better. I need to order Allen Blade's video's and just haven't done it yet.

I radiused the edges, sanded it smooth on top, etc. Little fixes to it. I will redo it over the summer.

Thanks Taz.
Any other suggestions on making the Grizz run better?
Thanks.

Give it a few kicks wearing steel toed boots, swear at it a few times, true up the contact wheel, make a new tool rest, and buy good belts

Yvsa, yes a 10" wheel will raise the SFM. One thing I did was put a self leveling chair glide on the end of the tracking wheel adjustment bolt. That really helped smooth out the adustment. Before I did that the belt would jump instead of slowley moving to each side.
