I'm thinking of picking one of these up while they're on sale.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me (it's not discernable from the catalog photos) if the work rest could be moved to the contact wheel? It's only shown on the platen, and I like to have a work rest near the contact wheel for profiling.

Any other 'yea or nea' on the Grizzly would be welcomed, as well.

Thanks,

Larry

No problem, I use the work rest on the contact wheel for profiling all the time. I am using the 10" contact wheel. The Grizzly is great if you don't have much money. It needs a little tinkering to work right and has a high belt speed but beats the h*ll out of a file. You can make some good knives on one and there just isn't anything in the price range that will work as well.

Thanks, Tom.

I've heard that the 10" is pretty much mandatory to grind the left side of the blade...

Yeah Larry,

The 10" wheel is pretty much manditory for hollow grinding so don't forget to figure that into the cost. It also increases the surface speed by quite a lot, good for profiling but you have to be very careful when hollow grinding. It's no worse than a stock Square Wheel grinder though. When I can finally afford a KMG or Bader I'll still use my Griz for profiling.
