Any experience with this? If not, then will it be appropriate for knife making? It's 1720 RPM and 2800 FPM blade speed seems high when compared to some of the bandsaws suggested in these forums. I am knew to this and want to get good stuff the first time that I can keep a lifetime. I may be able to get a deal on it is why I am asking. Safely under $1000. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

It is way too fast for metal cutting. You want 100 to 300 for metal. That is a wood cutting saw. For less than $200 you can get the Harbor Freight 4x6. It is cheap, works well if you get a bi-metal blade and mine is over 2 years old with no problems once I got a good blade (not from Harbor Freight).

A guy can do a lot with just a hack saw!
bimetal 14 tpi blade and let the teeth do the work.

But still, I figure there's a HF metal-cutting bandsaw in my future

A wood bandsaw is helpful for handle materials, I got a $50 craiglist special and I love it. Once I got it properly adjusted and a high-quality blade, it purrs like a kitten.
