One of my students (Paul Sabin) just got in a Grizzly grinder. I went to the archive to look for pics of the upgrades but they are gone. Does anyone know of a site showing pics. Thanks

Hi I.G., the Alan Blade video shows a couple if you have access to a copy of that. Also, Shane Ivie just posted a nice platen mod for his Griz over on CKD...definitely worth checking out... Other than that, a ceramic platen liner would be good...let him know I've got them if he needs one! :) Oh, almost forgot, when I had my griz, I bought a 4" drive wheel to slow that sucker down from Rob Frink...I don't know if he's still making them or not, but it was nice to have...in fact I had him make me one that was a 4" contact/drive wheel so I could hollow grind with it...only small things like folders/straight razors though due to the clearance issues on the griz.

IG,
Here are some pics of the platen I made for mine. It was just going to be a quickie fix but has worked so well I just upgraded it some. It's made from a piece of flat stock, a piece of wood, two sided tape, and hanger bolts.
One picture shows it with graphite tape which has been replaced by pyroceram.

I also added a brace (ala Allen Blade and TJ) to mine and extra spring (though I went a different route than TJ did):

Wapiti has some very nice modifications for the Grizz on his site.
There are some other neat shop built tools there also.

Brett Bennett also has a modified Grizz on his site.

Recondoc has also modified his Grizzly.

Greg
