I've wanted a Canadian belt knife for a while now.
It comes in different styles based on the same design.
Grohmann sells kits for a couple of them on their website.
Beware: shipping took about three weeks with the package held up in Customs

Ironically, shipping is kinda expensive even in Canadian dollars.

The kit is complete. All you need is glue; actually you don't even need glue, just a hammer to set the rivets.
You can't really see what's in the kit when you order. I wasn't expecting it to be this complete. The scales are already cut and shaped to fit. You even get a piece of sandpaper to finish it off.
If you are going to do custom scales I think the pins are 5/32" though I don't have my calipers here to be sure.
Over all, nice kit. Not sure the price savings is worth it over just ordering the complete knife.

The fasteners are expansion type so once they are on you're going to have to drill them out.
I haven't decided whether I'm going to try custom scales yet so I'm just looking at it.
The scales I think are rosewood and are nice.
I have some figured maple, walnut, micarta, and other stuff around here so I may try something else.
Blade is 4mm or 3/16" and well made, not cheap. I believe it's also available in a full flat grind as opposed to sabre. The top clip is just cosmetic and not even close to being sharp.
Looking around, you can buy the assembled knife for the same price I paid for the kit.
If you want to try custom scales this is the way to go, if not I would just buy the complete knife.
Either way, it is a nice blade and I'll probably order another one.

Nice review, thanks. I've had a Russell Canadian Belt Knife for 40+ years, carbon steel, pretty close to 1080. Easy to hone, takes a very fine edge. Good tough knives. I like the rosewood grips, myself. I treated the sheath with SnowSeal.

I've been enamored by the waspish look of the Russell for a while now and am glad I finally put one in the inventory.
Probably pick up a #1 sometime down the road.

The top swedges give a finer tip, so they may be pleasing to the eye, but have a funtional purpose.
