Anyone have any experience with Grohmann knives? What kind of steel do they use?I just ordered one of their "Deer and Moose" knives, didnt get it yet though. They look traditional so I posted this topic here. Mods please move it if nescessary. Thanks!

If I remember correctly the steel they use is 440A. There knives have a 'gentler' look to them as compared to a lot of the other stuff out there.

I have no cutting experience with them.

Carried them for years while living in Montana. Great knives for hunting and outdoors.Really like the "dangler" sheaths.

For their fixed blades they use the European 4110 stainless which is similar to 440A. They are heat treated to around 57 Rc. The steel is not one of the wonder steels but the Grohmanns are well designed knives that allows for easy field sharpening. I have a kydex sheath made for the original design #1 and it is my most used outdoor knife.

I have their Bird & Trout, Boat, and #1, all with their traditional rosewood scales and saber grind. I really like them, but if I was going to get another I would go for their new Camper (flat ground) models.

The eliptical blade shape is odd looking but very useful. I like it so much I have ordered a custom knife set that includes the Basadie which has a very similar blade shape to the Grohmann #1 (Rick Frigault).

I have been thinking about gettin' one of the large folders. Looks like it could be a good "Backpocket Knife".

It is interesting to note that in all the times
that Grohmann in mentioned here or in magazines
not on single gripe has been printed that I've
seen. :)

I think that says volumes about the company and
the knives they make. I'd like to own one and some
day I will, but for now I don't need one.

Hmmmmm....what am I saying ....not need another
knife?? Ahhhh, I'll be OK in bit :D
