I was wondering if any one has had any experience with Grohmann folding knives. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I can't help you with your question, but Gday, and welcome to blade forums:)

Welcome to the forums, aussiefella! Always good to see a new member, particularly the fairer gender, and those from outside the US.

The Grohmann expert around here is Tom Marshmann. He sells them at Marshmann Bros. I'd forgotten about the folder until you mentioned it. Never seen one. But, I like the fixed blades a lot.

Maybe Tom or someone else who knows a bunch will come along and answer your questions. Good luck.

Hey Aussiefella,
Welcome to Bladeforums! Feels odd saying that since I just became a member several days ago myself... Regarding Grohmanns - I am originally from Nova Scotia where they are manufactured and I have seen their factory in Pictou, N.S. I have used their products for almost 20 years and I can say that they are outstanding. I have constantly been impressed with their function in fieldcraft and I always carry one of their sheath knives while in the (I presently own 2 - a model 1 and a model 4 Survival with a nice buffalo handle - unfortunately several have been lost and many given as gifts). Their folders are also very high quality and perform well. I have a single bladed, lockback with stone inlaid handles which is wonderful (and beautiful). I gave my wife's father an excellent two bladed folder as a present and if it can last in and out of his pocket then it can last anything! Grohmann are incredibly versatile: I can also recommend their kitchen knives! I have a full set and they are superb! Grohmann itself provides excellent customer service, will custom make almost anything you want and they are great people. Any company that travels around their province to dealers once per month to sharpen and care for the knives that customers bring in - for free! - is great in my book. Hope the info helps. Feel free to ask any more specific questions and I promise to do my best to answer...

Thankyou for your comments. The particular knife I am looking at is the drop point, lockback folder. Like the one Sirius is talking about, but with a rosewood handle.
I have also found that Grohmann are very helpful and prompt in their replies to my e-mails.
Thanks!

I will echo Sirius's rmarks. I have used Grohman since 1970 and have found them to be superbly designed knives with a decent steel. They are also excellent value for the money.

Well, I had a response all typed out but my system froze and lost it!

Anyway, I, too, will echo sirius and add a few things. The Drop Point folder you're talking about is robust lockback, but is not a one-hand opener, only a nail nick. It's about the size of Spyderco Wenger, being 8" overall when open, but weighs significantly more - maybe too much for front pocket carry. (It comes with a nice leather flap belt sheath.)

Now, the steel is 4110(?), a European stainless similar the the US 440A. Many turn their noses up at a steel like that, but Grohmann's heat treat is excellent, the steel is very stain resistant and it's easy to sharpen, leading to a very serviceable blade.

They are also coming out with a folder of similar construction, but the design follows the lines of the DH Russell #1, one of my all-time favorite shapes.

The Grohmann folks are super nice to deal with, as well! :)
