Groomsmen Gift?

Hey Everyone,

I have 5 Groomsmen that I want to get a Knife for. I was thinking these knives and you guys are the experts, so I thought I would ask. One of the guys isn't a knife guy, 2 I would say like knives, but don't have anything of quality, and 2 are really into knives.

Myself and one of the guys, have matching Kershaw Leeks, otherwise I might have gone that route:

I am looking at a folder, around $50. I really like the black on black, and don't want serrated. I was kind of thinking the Ceramic might be cool, because I know none of them have anything like it, and it would be a memorable one of a kind gift, as long as I tell them NOT to use it for Prying...

1. Kershaw Cryo (http://kershaw.kaiusaltd.com/knives/knife/cryo)
2. SOG Twitch II (http://www.sogknives.com/twitch-ii-black-tini.html)
3. CRKT Fire Spark Tactical Assisted Folding Knife (http://www.crkt.com/Fire-Spark-Black-Blade-Razor-Sharp-Edge-OutBurst-Fire-Safe-LAWKS-Knife)
4. Timberline Knives Carbon Fiber Handled Ceramic Blade Folding Knife (http://www.knifecenter.com/item/TM8...tern-Mirror-Polish-Blade-Carbon-Fiber-Handles)

Thanks!

I would go with the Cryo and get them engraved with their initials and maybe the wedding date. Did the engraving on stainless SAKs for my wedding.

I would get in contact with kershawguy, kershaw blurs would be my suggestion. :)

Out of your options I would choose the Cryo, since it has a metal handle you could get names/dates engraved on the knife to personalize it further.

I got my groomsmen case mini copper locks with their names engraved. Cost about $50 each. USA made and classy.

If you are still open to other options, look at traditional bone or wood knives, they are just so classy compared to spring assists and titanium nitride coatings, at least in my opinion. My suggestion would be a Case Slimline Trapper or a Stockman. Or maybe consider an Alox SAK, those things get so much use day to day it's ridiculous. Plus your friend who isn't really into knives would probably use it more.

If you're set with the options you said then I'm sure whatever you pick will be well received.

Take five minutes and visit the Opinel Knives site. Buried in there is a section of their factory-decorated knives--I think they have a well known sculptor or two who uniquely decorate the handles of several of their knife models in color inlay. They are pretty kickass.

I think it might be within your budget (Opinels are notoriously reasonably priced) and would be a FAR more unique gift, particularly to 'non' or 'so-so' knife guys, than any of the knives you named.

I doubt many of the people on this site have managed to find that section of the Opinel site. I hope you take five minutes and check it out. It's what I'd give my groomsmen.

Spyderco Dragonfly and get them engraved? A friend of mine did just that last summer for his groomsmen.

I recieved a Buck 110 as a groomsman's gift, with my initials engraved on the bolster. Very traditional and classy. The old school traditional and classy speaks a lot more to quality and a well thought gift (for a wedding) in my eyes.

I've been a groomsman in 6 weddings, and got flasks for 5 of them. When I got the Buck 110 - engraved, with sheath, I was shocked!

Of the ones you mentioned I like #1 and #4. Re: #4: Not to dissuade you from ceramic, but it seems they haven't quite mastered the art of the perfect folding ceramic design yet. But they are novel, and cool in their own way.. tough call.

Thank you so much for your feedback everyone! I looked at a lot all of the options that were suggested, and based on the majority of the guys, they do prefer the more tactical look, which is kind of why I listed the 4 options, even though I think the Ceramic blade would be a unique option, I am really concerned about durability and longevity, and I do agree with a lot of you to get it engraved. So I decided to go with the Cryo. I found a site that engraves them out the door for just under $50.
