Groomsmen gifts

So I've searched a bunch of threads, but nothing has really helped much yet so i figured I'd ask you guys for some advice.

I'm getting married next month and am looking to buy some knives as gifts for my groomsmen. I just bought a Spyderco Para 2 about a month ago and have really been enjoying it. I thought it would be a perfect gift for the guys in my wedding (size, weight, appearance). The only problem is that it's just a bit too expensive for what I'd like to spend. I'm trying to keep the price about $75...

I've looked into the SS Delicas and Enduras, but I think I might like something a little more EDC and a little less "dressy"? Ideally, the "perfect" knife would have a blade length of about 3.5", stainless or G10 handles, decent but not ridiculously hard to sharpen steel and made in America (feel good feature, but not crucial). I'm not a big fan of back locks- liner locks are acceptable, but something slightly more robust would be preferred.

One of my groomsmen is a "knife guy". He's carrying a Benchmade AFCK w/ axis lock in D2 steel. The other groomsmen appreciate a decent knife, but view it as a tool and aren't "knife crazy" like I am and would probably appreciate anything of moderate quality on up... Everyone likes outdoor activities (camping, fishing and hunting) so something useful in that role as well as EDC would be a bonus.

I would love to have each guys knife engraved or etched with his name or initials, preferably on the spine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might be able to get this done? A one stop shop would be best!

Can anyone make any recommendations? Thanks for your help.

The Izula or eskabar fits a fair amount of your requirements.... They are neck knives however.

Being a fixed blade, they'll last longer without a doubt, keeping your gift and memory lasting forever.

Kershaw Leek SS

I know KnifeWorks does engraving for an extra fee. You get to choose the font and everything.

Amazing blade that will make an impression is the Spyderco Manix 2.

My Sister just gave me a Becker BK14 which I'm perfectly happy with and you can find for 35 dollars.

Benchmade Griptilian for 80 bucks.

Victorinox Trekker for 35ish, which is just a fantastic EDC for those that like multi tools.

I say got with some of the "build your own" Buck 110's.

You can add engraving, and keep the price where you want it.

Plus, its a iconic knife, American Made, and quite fetching. Granted its not a tactical folder, but there have been many a pocket worn out by a 110. Belt pouches too.

I got a swiss army knife/moneey clip as a groomsman gift with my intials. Has a blade and scissors and money clip. I thought it was a nice gift.

My vote is for the Benchmade Griptilian. I love this knife. It comes in several color options also. I got the OD Green with black serrated blade. VERY nice Knife.

I wish I would have thought of this for my groomsmen! Great idea. I would have gotten them all BK11s or 14s.

A knife that is in your budget, very suitable for outdoor, and with a unique look and feel is the scandinavian Eka 88. Even the knife guy may well be intrigued as it's so different from American tactical knives. It comes in different handle variants, all are nice and the Masur is the nicest one in my opinion. Something special, really.

Thanks, guys... All these are great suggestions. Not sure about the fixed blades though... They are cool, and even though I love my Izula, myself and most of the other guys can't really carry a fixed blade every day. I was hoping to do something they could actually USE everyday instead of something like cufflinks or a flask they'd use once and then stick in a drawer.

I was looking at the Manix2, but I'm not so sure how I feel about the ball bearing lock? It seems a little weird- some people seem to like it, others not. Mechanically, it seems similar to the Axis lock on a Benchmade? The custom 110's are a great thought but how "carryable" is it for an edc? My Dad and brother carry griptillians and they've never really spoken to me... I've never handled a Leek- but they always looked a little flimsy to me, maybe it's just they way they "photograph". Maybe I should just say screw extra the money and buy them all Para 2's?

I know Knifeworks does blade and handle engraving on the the flat faces, but I was hoping to have initials and maybe a date put on the spine... Any idea where I could get the spines etched or engraved?

My husband (with a little help from me) gave his Groomsmen and both of our Dads either Buck Noblemans (2 5/8" blade) or Colleagues (1 7/8), depending on how likely/often he thought each of them would use them. The guys that would have less use for them got the Colleagues, and the guys that would use them more got the Noblemans. They're inexpensive, but good quality knives - perhaps not 'top notch', but they're nothing to spit at. Very usable. I'm generally pretty wary on knives that aren't US made, but I really like these. We had all of them engraved at 'Things Remembered' for not too much. You mentioned that most of your groomsmen aren't "knife crazy", and in my opinion, a smaller knife would be more appropriate for such a person than a larger one, (3.5" is larger in my opinion) and smaller doesn't necessarily mean less usable.

Have you thought about the Dragonfly (available with stainless scales) from Spyderco? Mini Griptilian or Sequel(aluminum and G10 scales) from Benchmade? Depending on where you are, 3.5" might be longer than allowable carry (no length restrictions in MD as long as it isn't carried open). A FFG Delica would be a great choice, I wouldn't write it off so quick.

Excellent suggestion. I got my groomsmen the Benchmade Triage with engraving from Knifeworks and they were a huge hit, plus knifeworks' price was excellent and the service was great.

I was originally thinking Delica, but then I pulled out my old one (which i haven't carried in years) and I was just kind of "ehh..." about it. The dragonfly's ARE cool... I was originally thinking a "dress knife" would be best (something to wear with the Tux or when dressed up), but most of these guys are more working man types though so I started thinking larger, more substantial EDC knife... Like I said, one of the groomsmen is a knife guy, but the others I always look at and think "you need a good knife" so that's why I started thinking bigger!

Hey moose. Does mr. Becker know your out wondering on bf without supervision? Oh and congradulations chris!

I got my groomsmen engraved Case knives (mini copperlocks).

These just came in at the above mentioned site (sorry, I've been dinged already for dropping their name) and I think they look really sharp.

Benchmade Lone Wolf 40001 and 40003

I would go with the Para2s!! Maybe Benchmade Mini Grips. Of course, everyone needs a nice Case Stockman though. I'd stick with the Para2 though... great knives and pretty "black tie."

I convinced my best friend to get us all black Chaco Z2 sandals (look em up if you dont know what they are) for our groomsmen gifts, which we all wore in the ceremony w/ tuxes. GREAT gift & looked cool w/ 5 boys wearing them.

LOL! That's awesome! My Fiance is a pretty accepting woman, but I can't see her going for that!

Maybe the Buck 55?

A 500 series from the Buck Custom Shop would be nice too...
