So I picked up a Zing a few days ago to complete the Wally World trilogy. I was playing with it as I watched Nascar on the tube and was feeling a little buyer's remorse. The OD-1 has the frame lock and kewl flipper, the Skyline has the low weight, super ergos and more effective blade shape (thin material but with more belly than the others), and the Zing has. . . . . . just the grooves. They're ok looking, but what good are they, really? Only effect so far had been a bit of wash-board effect when whittling soft wood. I decided to prepare a healthy snack tray for myself and thought, "What the heck, I'll use the Zing." Out comes the sharp cheddar and apple and avocado. Slice. Slice. Slice, slice, slice, slice, slice. . . . .Holy Moly, nothing's sticking to the blade! Out comes the favorite Santoku with the Granton edge. . . slice, slice, darn! Not even in the same league with the Zing. Only problem is the somewhat short blade. Guess the next step on the slippery slope will be a groove. Hmmm. Maybe a search for Shun may be in order. Any of those use the groove pattern?

Yep, that's what those grooves are good for alright!!;) They do a wonderful job of keeping stuff off of the blade. That RJ Martin knew damn well what he was doin'!!

Hope you continue to enjoy the Zing, and definitely add a Groove to the collection. You won't be disappointed. The extra blade weight on the Groove makes flipping even easier than on the Zing.
