I just picked up a Groove in a trade and I am very impressed. I never really liked the looks of it online with the striations in the blade, but they actually make the knife look like a custom(I know that is was a custom before a production, but this really looks like it). It is very well built and extremely smooth. The flipper works great. It is one of the most comfortable knives to hold. The clip is very tight but functional. The knife is thin and pretty light overall, so it carries well in the pocket. There isn't much I would have changed on this knife, one of them being the recurve. It would be much easier to thin the edge out if not for that recurve, although it does look very good.

Just thought I would share my thoughts on this knife, I think it deserves them:).

I think Mr. Martin would agree with you.
That is one of the best flippers I've ever handled.

Glad you like it BJE,

It's a great knife. Now you need to go check out the Juyly issue of BLADE magazine and take a look at RJ Martin's new Zing model coming out soon from Kershaw.

Another really cool model with a striated blade!

Cheers,
Jon

Nice score on the Groove. It is a great blade. I scored one off
my son for Christmas. I got the tanto version but I reprofiled it.
Now I have an all black non-tanto. ;)

I have a pair of Grooves. Along with my ZT 0200, a Groove is my EDC.

jonnymac, did the article happen to mention what blade length and shape the Kershaw version of the Zing will be?

(please be wharnie, please be wharnie)

Sorry, no wharnie this time:( I like wharncliffs too, but this one does look good. I don't have a pic in front of me right now, but I know there's one here on the forums somewhere. i'll try to find it. I believe it's a clip point. Had some nice orange g-10 scales too!

oh well. Clip is an interesting choice. You don't see many of those anymore.

That is interesting. Martin's Zings have had all sorts of different blades, but I've never seen one with a clip blade.

Now now guys, I said I couldn't be sure;) I didn't have the picture of the zing in front of me when I posted. Now that I'm back home and have the magazine in front of me, I can see it's not a clip. Here's a scan.

Ah. Actually, that's a pity. I like clip blades, and as redsst said, they seem to have fallen out of favor recently.

Still, that's an interesting knife. Alas, I'm not sure I need another 3-inch blade (Leeks have that covered; can never have too many 4-inch blades, though :D).

I can't really say I need one either, but after handling some custom Zings and talking to RJ about them I think I'll make an exception, although the exception list is getting kinda long. ;)

Yes we will be bringing the Zing to production. 2 colors (orange and black), blade will have both facets and striations, USA made. Should be a great addition to the Groove family.

MSRP and delivery have yet to be determined.

Thomas,
May we respectfully suggest the Wharncliffe version. You never see 3"+ wharnie blades on production knives. You have to go to customs if you want that. I know the Leek is in that realm, but the Zing has a thinker and wider blade. Judging by the post throughout this site, the Wharnie is a very highly praised blade shape. A 3" production wharnie would fill a niche that is currently unoccupied.

We have handled 6 different Zing blade shapes (one being a wharny) that RJ did up, and believe he personally liked the sheepsfoot style version the best. He actually pitched us that blade shape first. Ultimately, it came down to a decision, and we went against the wharncliff.

This is not to say there will never be that variation, just won't be on the first generation.

JJ, probably not a thick as RJ's customs. Liners will also be ss not ti. .060 is I believe where we ended up. Don't quote me on that.

I'll hold off on a delivery date at this time.;)

BJE...enjoy your Groove! ;)

Thomas...the Zing looks and sounds great!

Speaking of facets, I was taking a closer-than-normal look at my Tanto Groove the other day and I could swear there are noticeable but subdued facets on its blade...is this just my imagination, common knowledge and another Kershaw fact that managed to slip through the holes in my senility-riddled brain, or not-so-common knowledge-but-true? :D

Ray :)
