Grooving tool clogging

I have been away for several years from knives and leather.
I don't remember this happening but my groovers keep clogging. Very tedious to 'clean' them out. Even worse the tool stops following the edge when they clog. All three tools are doing the same thing.
Tips?
Thanks,
Dave

It may be time to replace the cutting tips, but you can clear a clog with a match or a bic ligther. Just heat up the tip with the flame and the clog will burn out quickly.

That's a great tip sheathmaker! I had a few clogs and I fought the heck out of the thing to un clog it...that would have saved me some time and curse words

Mine has plugged up a few times. I've always been able to clear it by using it quickly and pressing firmly against a scrap of leather. I'll try the lighter if that stops working.

I use a needle, or my awl, whichever is closer at the time.

I even found out how to sharpen the silly thing from Stohlman, its not easy but it darn well works! I was surprised. :)

Dang I feel bad. None of my three have ever clogged. Guess I'm doing something wrong. I shall motor on.

Mine has a habit of clogging when I am grooving the rough side, but it doesn't do it every time thank goodness.
