Here are some pics of one I just made.

18.5" blade, 1.7" at widest

non-linear distal taper, balance is as close as I could reasonably get it to the guard.

Everything is pattern welded or piled. The pommel only has 3 layers, though.

I hope you like.

A classic design very well executed sir, would love to own a piece like that.

thank you both. I am going to get professional photos, and then somebody will hopefully decide they want to own it. I am not keeping it, that is for sure.

riversidedep - I think a scabbard and by-knives would be great. However, I am not going to make them. Mostly because I have a sword project with Charles Wu for a Chinese-style Tang Dynasty Jian, and I need to get moving on it. This project will have to end here (it has required many months, and I have do to my part with the other one. Charles has already made beautiful fittings, and I hope I can do them justice. I got them 2 months ago, but the messer took a loooonnnngg time.).

thanks.

Pirate63 - thank you.

That is incredible. Really digging your steel. Can't wait to see your Jian and how this collab turns out with Mr. Wu. I've admired your previous offerings in Dao swords. Wish I had the money at the time to pick em up. I'm a big fan of Gim/Jian and Oxtail sabers.

thank you. Charles's work is just incredible. It is a little intimidating to make something to follow him, but I have a set of jian and a set of dao fittings from him, so there will be two done. At least. His work is so good, I would be happy to spend a couple of years just making blades to go with his fittings. He gives inspiration, for sure.

Stellar as always to see longer blades by you. One could wish for a winning lotto ticket to cover adoption of this messer. The grip and pommel geometries understated excellence (something of your work I see back to your journeyman work that always fits). The jian reads as definitely something to look forward to.

Cheers

I built your crate yesterday. I will ship messer and a good sized chunk of parent bar today.
you got lucky, the motor on my hydraulic press burned out yesterday while I was trying to forge some p-weld for the sword with Wu. I won't be making anything other than monosteel knives for a few weeks.

I hope you enjoy the messer. It has more personality than a factory model, for sure. Should perform better, too (it is made from better steel than most available - not naming any brands). 80crv2 is a great steel for a chopper.

thanks,
kc

Thanks Kevin!
I appreciated how promptly you shipped out and gave me tracking for the sword. It was easy doing business with you and I would for sure buy more pieces from you in the future. Take care and get that equipment fixed. Sorry to hear that happened to you.
