I've been looking around on the bay for a 5ot this past little while and have came across a quite a few with ground off tang stamps.

Are these seconds? Or are they a clear out from the factory closure?

There was one which was the ducks unlimited knife with a regular 5ot stamp that had a small line ground through it, is this because the blade model number didn't match the actual model number?

They were production rejects. Various reasons. Some like that were sold to employees through the company store at the factory. Blade stamps sometimes did not match the model number, but usually weren't rejected for that reason alone from what I have seen.

Hi belljs3 from Australia,
sounds like all of these knives are factory seconds; they would still make good user knife.
You could also look at the 5UH and the 55OTG. The 55UHs and the 5OT Ducks, often have cracks in the handles.
If you like collecting Schrade knives, I would look for a 5OT or 3OT in a brown box. I like the 3OT myself...KG

This is two DUCK knives, the ones with the blade grinding may not have been finished.

You see these on eBay from time to time.

The ducks unlimited ones I have seen have no shield so I guess they were simply unfinished and classified as seconds

My DUCK knives have blade etching, of ducks flying and some have a date etching also.
All the knives in my DUCK Display have the blade etching of the ducks flying, only (no Date)
I would date the Display as, 1999. Reference is made to the 95th Anniversary of Schrade.
The knives in the Display have the "two ducks flying etch"... KG

Like the Seconds and unfinished knives in this discussion; there must be thousands of unfinished and secons about.
Knives like the half finished Pro-Hunters with the wooden handles, and the 2004 Schrade ACB Blue bone handled unfinished knives, are two we see on eBay.

This is a Finished and Unfinished Schrade ACB80, they never made it to Production before Schrade Closed Down in 2004..
