Group buy?

I've been browsing another popular forum recently and noticed all of the group buys they do just for their members, popular knives with unique handle materials and whatnot, and was wondering if that would be a possibility here? Maybe a special bk16 with your BH# etched in, maybe even make it a Sabre 16. What do you guys think? And to Ethan and the mods, would this be possible?

I like the idea I also would like the 14 personally numbered too
I believe there are enough beckerheads that would buy to make it work depending on price
But I have no idea of what a special really limited run like this would costs the company.
Hopefully it will take off.

I seriously doubt that it's going to happen. From what I've heard, Kabar doesn't have the ability or the interest in doing small runs. I think it's cost prohibitive to do runs of less than a few thousand.

how about buying a large quantity of lets say BK16's in order to get a discounted price. You know something like, "if you buy 100 BK16 instead of paying reg price you get it cheaper". The only problem is people will have to commit to buying them.

We could also figure out how many BH's could comitt, buy that many knive then send them off to get engraved with our numbers

Sprint run of D2 16s with OD scales and special etched limited logo?

Sprint runs are not typically the KA-BAR way. Sure they will have an occasional limited run knife (ex. The Stoner knife), but nothing near like companies like Spyderco who will have 20 or so different sprints in a year.

Yes, a D2 sabre 16 with my BH number stamped or etched would just be awesome, (I'd order at least 5) it will never ever happen. Additionally, KA-BAR probably would never offer options on stamped versus laser etch or an option for the older coating instead of the rhino liner either. It all comes down to production costs, not customer desire.

I understand that, but I was thinking more along the lines of a basic 16 with a special engraving and that's about it, don't get me wrong id rather have the D2 sabre 16 but I realize that it's not really a possibility

You can etch your BH number on your own knife... not too hard. Lots of examples in the archives.
Or bring it to a shop with a laser etcher.

Lots of handle-makers and customizers out there. No need to go through the trouble of trying to buy it that way from Ka-Bar. Sprint runs cost more, even from the factory.

Spark Talked about doing a Bladeforum s30v or cpm 3v saber 16 but Kabar was too swamped to do a micro run (200 or under) I would love to see this option revisited though.

have you also noticed that those group buy knives are always sold at MSRP or higher?
I'd rather find someone with a laser etcher and pay them the setup & production fees on a regular run -- at least that way the price would probably stay under $100.
