I envy you hell I envy everyone on this forum for one reason or another
did you ever put your Balis end to end and see what the distance was? or weighed them collectively?

My goodness!

That is a nice collection. I agree you hand on to some of those. Those swords are harder than none other to find.

I have a sword in my pocket!

Quick question i've been wondering about. Can you manipulate a bali-sword like you would a regular sized bali?I mean i know you can't do ALL the same moves, but could you do similar stuff that been translated into a bali-sword style that would make it look like you were manipulating a small bali only it is a full sized bali-sword?Just wondering,TIA

Sort of...

I can't do "ice pick drops", and I've never tried an arieal or finger/thumb twirls.

The basic openings are MUCH SLOWER!!
You have to stand around waiting for the handle to complete the swing...

It's also pretty hard on your wrists..

But other than that, it's the same. Just make sure you get your fingers out of the way of the closing handles!

Very nice collection!!!

A friend of mine (the one who got me into balisongs in the firstplace) is an excelent swordsman. Ive tried for a long time to get a bali sword Just to see him use it. Watching him with a set of Katanas is poetry in motion. Sadly I cant afford a bali sword even though I had a chance to buy a matched set a couple of years ago. Incedently, what is the usual size for a Bali sword? the biggest folding knife (sword) I think Ive seen is 37" long and its a fully operating Stiletto. Does anyone have any clips of someone doing freestyle with a balisword?

The problem with the big ones, is the weight behind them. So if you mess up you can do more then just cut yourself, you could cut your whole finger off

But now a days, they are pretty good at sowing them back on.

You can do some of the very basic manipulations with the "bali-swords".But,there's a bigger problem than the weight & length of them. The pins are not all that strong, making any manipulation a possible disaster for the bali-sword (and possibly for anything nearby).
You can't do ice pick "drop & pops",since there's too much weight. The handles are too thick to do finger twirls. If you're nuts enough to attempt any arials, chances are you'll hurt yourself and/or the bali-sword.
We did have a guy who worked at the knife shop (where we got introduced to balisongs) who drilled out the pin areas and replaced the pins with stronger & slightly larger ones.He was able to do a "kata" of sorts with the bali-sword,using it much like nunchaku.Even if the pins are replaced, there's no way that you could attempt to use it like a normal sword. The impact of blades colliding would either break the pins,or cause the handles to break.
I would love to see someone make a titanium handled version with good thick pins.It would be able to do some of the manipulations without the constant fear of breakage. It would also be a little lighter, and could move a little faster & easier than the normal versions.I still wouldn't use it like a sword though
