Not much info to be found on this company or it's products, but this is a nice old hatchet with an older handle. "Tool Works" was commonly used in the names of manufacturers in the late 19th and early 20th century. The former owner of this hatchet would be 92 years-old if he were still with us, from the sale of his estate.

When was the last time tools were manufactured in NYC? Mine has very hard steel.

From a little research is appears there was quite a bit of manufacturing in NYC through the early 20th century, but that was phased out and there is little there today. I doubt manufacturers can afford the valuable property there!

I do love a good hatchet, that is a real sweety. Is that a little scout axe?

Good question Gary. Actually it is what I would call a normal size. Head is 5 5/8" long and from the top of the head to end of the handle it is 16 1/2" long. A larger size than the little Plumb boy-scout hatchet I have for sure.
